Reading without an account
Articles are public and free to read. You do not need to sign in, create a reader membership, or subscribe to email notifications to access them.
The Daybook’s own readership dashboard does not count anonymous article visits. Hosting, security, and content providers may still process technical request information, such as IP addresses, browser details, requested URLs, and timestamps, to deliver and protect the site.
Information we collect and why
- Sign-in and membership. Sign in with ChatGPT supplies a site-specific user identifier, verified email address, and available display name. If you choose to join, we store your identifier, name, email, and signup timestamp to operate your membership and count reader signups. The Daybook does not receive your ChatGPT password.
- Member reading activity. When a signed-in member opens an article, we record the member identifier, article identifier, and calendar date. A read is counted once per member, article, and New York calendar day. These records support readership statistics; they do not measure reading completion or time spent.
- Email subscriptions. If you request notifications, we store your email, identifier, subscription status, confirmation and unsubscribe information, and relevant timestamps. We keep delivery records, including message payloads, provider message identifiers, send status, and errors, to deliver requested emails, troubleshoot failures, and avoid duplicates.
- Messages to us. If you email the publisher, your email address, message, and any attachments are received through the publisher’s email provider and used to respond to your inquiry.
Membership and newsletter information are available through publisher-only controls. Public readers cannot access the subscriber or membership dashboard.
Email choices
Joining as a reader does not subscribe you to email notifications. Notifications require a separate opt-in and email confirmation. A new article may generate its own notification, so an edition can produce more than one email.
Use the unsubscribe link in a notification, or the unsubscribe control in the email-updates section while signed in, to stop future notifications. Already-sent messages cannot be recalled. Unsubscribing changes your subscription status; it does not automatically erase your membership, past reading activity, or delivery records.
Service providers and external content
The site uses OpenAI’s Sites and sign-in services, Cloudflare hosting and database infrastructure, and Resend for email delivery. Resend receives recipient addresses and message content to send requested messages. These providers process information needed to supply their services; their own policies also apply.
The site loads fonts from Google Fonts and may load photographs from external image hosts. Your browser contacts those providers when it requests their resources. Following an article’s source link also takes you to a separate website with its own practices. Information may be processed in the United States or other countries where providers operate.
Cookies and measurement
Sign-in and hosting services may use cookies or similar technology for authentication and security. The Daybook currently has no advertising pixels or third-party web analytics scripts in its application. Its member-readership statistics are stored in the site database.
The application records email sending status, not inbox receipt, and does not itself add email-open pixels or click-tracking redirects. Resend’s provider-side tracking can depend on the sender’s account settings. Blocking cookies may affect sign-in; articles remain available without a membership.
Retention and your requests
Membership, reading-activity, subscription, and delivery records currently remain in the site database until removed by the publisher; there is no automatic age-based deletion schedule. Unsubscribe records help prevent unwanted future notifications. Providers may retain their own logs and backups under their policies.
You can ask to access, correct, or delete your Daybook information by emailing brittonhenline8@gmail.com with “Daybook privacy” in the subject. We may need to verify that the request comes from the account holder. Requests are reviewed by the publisher; the site does not currently offer a self-service account-deletion button. Deleting Daybook data does not delete your ChatGPT or email-provider account.
The site’s current application does not sell reader records or share them with advertisers. Information is used for the features described above, handling requests, security, and any applicable legal obligations. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
Children and changes to this policy
The Daybook is a general-audience publication and is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has supplied personal information, please contact the publisher so it can be reviewed and removed where appropriate.
Changes to these practices will be reflected on this page with an updated date. For questions about this policy or the information described here, contact Britton Henline.
